The Science of Flowell
INTRODUCTION:
Wax deposits affect a majority of oil and gas condensate producers. Wax deposits create problems from the wellhead all the way to the oil refinery. The deposits cause blockages, equipment failure, loss of capacity, and loss of production. They are one of the biggest nuisances affecting oil and gas production today.
It took 20 years to develop FloWell, a product which eliminates wax deposits by returning them to liquid phase. Using FloWell is a simple process: First, mix FloWell with a measured amount of crude oil or condensate. Second, mix the FloWell and oil/condensate mixture to the oil stream at the wellhead. Third, by agitation, FloWell returns the wax deposits to liquid. The use of FloWell requires no additional components, needs no hazard control mechanisms, is easily disposed of if spilled, and continues to perform all the way to the refinery.
FloWell is the easiest and most effective method for returning wax deposits to liquid phase. Because of this ease and effectiveness, FloWell will shape the world of oil production for many years to come.
TESTING:
Since FloWell DOES NOT respond well to Laboratory testing due to the absence of essential components present in the enclosed oilstream but are NOT present in Laboratory samples very few lab tests show encouraging results.
Our recommendation for testing is DO IT AT THE WELLHEAD for best results. FloWell has NEVER failed in an application to date!!
USAGE:
If FloWell is used only for periodic cleaning, however, then there are other factors from wellhead data that indicate when another application of FloWell is required, such as increasing pump horsepower indicated by amperage and torque increases. On free flowing wells, another application of FloWell would be indicated by a reduction in flow.
Wells that have been treated with FloWell have gone from requiring wax cutting every 4 to 7 days, to experiencing at least 12 weeks of uninterrupted flow before FloWell treatment has been required again. This results in a dramatic reduction in the operating costs, increased production flow and decline in workovers.
ON VISCOSITY:
Wax precipitation increases viscosity of crude oil; returning wax precipitation to liquid phase decreases that viscosity. FloWell is not intended to be a viscosity reducer, nor a pour point reducer, but it does claim to be a cloud point reducer. A video of a simple mixing test, available on our website (www.PeGreSol.com/freefluid.mp4), shows the effect on viscosity that occurs when FloWell is added to crude oil at a 10% ratio1. In this video, the viscosity of the oil reduced dramatically to the point that it was splashing around like water. This test was conducted at a temperature of 35°C; however, equally remarkable is that the viscosity reduction that FloWell brought about was maintained down to 10°C — which is a clear indicator of the probable cloud point reduction capabilities of FloWell.
It is not necessary for FloWell to reduce the viscosity of crude oil to this state; it is an unnecessary expense. All that is necessary is to mix enough FloWell to return wax to the liquid phase. This immediately provides secondary benefits in material flow.
FloWell has never been marketed as a viscosity reducer, and there are other more effective and economical methods to do this. What those methods do not do is return wax to liquid phase. This is the job of FloWell.
SUMMARY:
FloWell does not fit in the current categories of wax treatment technologies. It is a product that works “outside the box”. FloWell is the simplest and most effective wax precipitation treatment ever to enter the oil and gas industry. FACT!! We have SUCCEEDED where our competitors have FAILED!
1Please note that a 10% FloWell solution is not commercially viable and that level was used solely to show FloWell's effect on viscosity. A significantly smaller ratio of FloWell is all that is required for the return of wax precipitation to liquid phase.
